Aroeira
1 and 2
A
former Portuguese Open venue, Frank Pennink's Aroeia 1 is
one of the best-established courses in the Lisbon area.
A classic parkland course close to the coast. The great
scottish course architect Donald Steel added the more strategic
Aroeira 2 in 2000. An easy course to walk.
Belas
Considered
a triumph for designer Willaim Roquemore, this 1997 course
combines modern course design techniques of the highest
standard with a superb setting just outside Lisbon. A spectacular
looking course over rolling countryside with mountain views.
Excellent.
Beloura
This par 73 parkland course offers a very fair
challenge and a strong finish. A good course for mid-handicappers,
and for low handicappers to get their game in shape before
taking on the championship courses. An easy course to walk.
Estoril
A course with a great tradition, this is the oldest course
in the Lisbon region, designed by MacKenzie Ross of Turberry-fame,
and 20 times host to the Portuguese Open. It enjoys an imposing
location above Estoril, with sea views. Undulating parkland.
Oitavos
When
it opened in 2001, Oitavos was widely hailed as one of the
finest links courses in mainland Europe, and was immediately
placed in Golf World's "Top 100 Courses in Europe"
at 33. A genuine links challenge next to the Atlantic Ocean.
It will be host to the Portuguese Open for the next 3 years.
Penha
Longa
This
Robert Trent Jones Jr. course is well established as one
of Portugal's top half-dozen courses, and a must for most
visiting golfers to the Estoril area. Laid out over mountain
foothills, around a 14th century palace, many historic features
remain, including an ancient aqueduct behind the 6th green.
Quinta
da Marinha
Robert
Trent Jones' well-established 1984 seaside course, mainly
level parkland and heathland with several lakes, and views
to the nearby Atlantic Ocean and the Sintra mountains. An
easy course to walk.
Quinta do Peru
This is one of the finest parkland courses you will
find anywhere. Every hole is a treasure, the setting is
beautiful, the quality is first-rate. If you have the chance,
you must play Peru - it is pure golfing pleasure. Lightly
undulating terrain makes this a comfortable walk. Designed
by William Roquemore
Ribagolf 1 and 2
A rising star in Portuguese golf, Ribagolf provides a classy
golfing experience, aimed at attracting tour events. Both
the courses were cleverly intergrated among mature features.
With 3 sets of tees for men and 2 for ladies, you can play
the length of course to suit you. Ribagolf 1 is the longer
of the two courses. Both are a comfortable walk.
Troia
Widely regarded as one of the best courses in the whole
of Europe, Robert Trent Jones' classic links is a course
of some mystique, set on a narrow peninsula jutting out
into the Atlantic. Sand dunes and tall Atlantic pines set
the challenge. A visit there will reward you with a stunning
course right next to the ocean that is rarely over-crowded.
A comfortable walk.
